Default Suggestions for plugging y pipe after thru-hull conversion?

Previous owners converted my '96 22 Scarab to Through hull exhaust. The thru prop y pipe was capped with a thin patch of rubber and a hose clamp. When hauling 4 or more large passengers, the top of the y pipe is below the water level and leaks slightly and may burst at any time. Any factory or home made suggestions on capping with a water proof seal?

I would not mess around with homeade solutions. You can buy the factory blockoff from your favorite merc. dealer for about $30. This will allow you to cap it off at the outdrive and take the Y pipe out. That 4 inch hose will fill a boat very quickly once it goes below the waterline.

If you can not easily remove the Y pipe I will tell you what I did last time. I went to Home Depot and purchased a rubber cap that goes over 4" PVC pipe. This also attaches with a hose clamp but it is much stronger.

Cut the Y pipe apart and install the merc block off plate. Having this system jury rigged is putting your boat at the risk of sinking very, very quickly.

you will have to pull the motor to remove the y pipe and and seal it properly with the merc block off plates........if your homemade thing leaks the boat sinks!!!!.....this was my big project for this year.......I was sick of my stock Merc air silent choice and thought I would go straight out the back with some full time mufflers then found out I would have to pull the motors to do it properly .......picked up two used sets (twins) of Corsa electric diverters from an OSO member from the Parts Swap section.......installed them myself......REALLY simple.......the control they offer around the docks then out in the open is super slick!!!!!......I love em'!!!!
