Heard about it this morning on the radio. This is the 4th or 5th night time accident I've read about in the last few weeks.

08/18/05) BAY SHORE - A girl from Deer Park was killed Wednesday after two boats collided in the Great South Bay just east of the Robert Moses Bridge.
According to police, 12-year-old Brianna Lieneck was killed after her family’s boat collided with a Grady White driven by 33-year-old Steven Fleischer, of Bay Shore, shortly after 9 p.m.

Brianna’s parents, Frank and Gina Lieneck, are in Southside Hospital with head and neck injuries. Her 13-year-old sister and a friend were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries.

Fleischer was charged with boating while intoxicated. He and two passengers on his boat suffered minor injuries.

How sad My 8 year old niece and her friend are out in that same area with my sister this week. I know they don't drive the boat at night, but it sure makes you think. That poor family they will never be the same again

This is why I simply don't boat at night - not worth the risk. It's hard enough avoiding the idiots and other amateur-hour "boaters" during the day when you can see them, let alone in the dark.

Very, very sad story.
