BAnks Turbo Set-up
#1
I'm looking at a 28 Cigarette with old Gale Banks twin turbo set-ups with a single carb. Anyone know anything about these things. The engines are 400cu.in. chevys.
To make things better this is all mated to arneson #6 drives.

Several years ago, I had a 24' Superboat with the old Gale Banks system. I t worked pretty well although there was a fair amount of turbo lag. A little tough to prop but worked well
The Merc Trans was the weak link. Too much torque.

Got a picture. I have some but will have to dig up & scan. I had a 454 Gales Banks twin Turbo setup for about 19 years. I wish I had the same motor for all the years but I ran 12 lbs of boost & distroyed a few motors. Main problem I had was motor was set up for 100 octane & there were times when it was hard to get.
I would be worried about the exhaust manifolds still being good. I had to cut mine up & repair anumber of times over the years.

OK, don't know anything about the small block. I would just check the motor & make sure it leak downs OK, then run it. If no smoke out the exhaust that means the seals on the turbos are OK.

I ran a similar setup for 3 years on a 486" Ford.
Does the system have a carb box or are the turbos mounted in front of each turbo?
