When installing a prop, what torque setting should the nut be tightened to? Should it differ between drive/boat types or all be the same no matter what the outdrive? (This case being a MerCruiser 330 TRS)

Mercruiser lists torque,if memory serves me correctly at a minimum of 55 ft/lbs for Rubber hub props. Not sure about solids but I will look at the manuel when I get to work and post a better answer later this evening. Ed merc cert.#MI2256c

The Mercruiser service manuel lists the torque for a trs at 40 ft/lbs plus or minus five ft/lbs. that is in the back of manuel number 2 Ed

I for one would like to know who uses a torque wrench on their props!

Forever I have just tightened it down, holding a prop blade with one hand and then when it feels good, I tighten it more to get those tabs to line up. Then punch in the tabs and GO!

When I worked as a marine tech we torqued everything, I spent way too much money on my Snap-On torque wrenches not to use them.

When your torque wrench went clicka-clicka, what did you do to align the punch down washer thingies?

Yep, torque to spec then TIGHTEN to the next alignment point for the tab washer, of course you have to use a ratchet to tighten to the next point becuase it's not good for the torque wrench to tighten past when it clicks. On anything but a bearing you tighten till it aligns, on a bearing you loosen till the next alignment point.

I`m with Kent / Mudball. You guys can say that you torque the prop nut, but I`d like to see you actually pull the ol` torque wrench out next time you install a prop.

At least now I know what the proper torque should be......
