Default How to keep your upper drive ears from breaking at high trim levels

I thought I'd post a thread showing the installation of the re-inforcement block from max machine worx they sell for bravo drives. This piece is supposed to keep your upper drive ears from flexing and breaking sides off that support your drive at max trim while turning.Under 100$ it is another piece every bravo should have on boats that are ran at high trim levels.
First, pull your drive off. Then remove the factory zinc anode.

Next, set piece on drive, mark drive for the 3 holes you have to drill and tap then drill the holes.

Tap the holes to 3/8 inch, use tap magic so the aluminum doesn't stick to your tap and gall the new threads.

Next set re-inforcement block in place, lock tight allen bolts that max machine provides you with it and bolt it on. You will no longer be able to use a speedo pickup but they always read high anyways.Trim your zinc anode slightly to clear the block and bolt it back on.

Finished product. Also, the second pic is my spare drive that already had one installed,I see max used white silicone while installing it so You'd probably want to do that too. This block might be overkill but it is supposed to keep the ears from flexing and breaking off during high side loads while trimmed up.I have never broke any ears off but at least they can't flex now,Smitty

One last thing, you will need to trim the piece on bottom of gimbal that directs exhaust into drive to clear the block on drive,Smitty

actually, you have significantly strengthened your upper. but, your gimbal ring is still going to take the same beating and then some.
