thankyou..
To my fellow SLT racers and racing community,
It has been brought to my attention that SLT # 10 co-driver Jeff Swendrowki is still in ICU 1 week after his testing accident. He is still at North Ottowa Community Hospital in Grand Haven , Michigan Your calls and support have been very much appreciated but now it is time to step up to the plate and help this kid out
Most of you have no idea of the extent of his injuries ..so I will shed some light on you.
He has pins in his hand to hold hold his fingers on , he was cut with the propeller
from his ankle to his buttocks. He has a chunk of meat missing from his body.
That wound has to be repacked every 2 days to help the muscle rebuild itself.
He is going through massive skin grafts today on his legs where the propeller ripped the skin and could not be salvaged. He is on constant antibiotics to help prevent
infection which at this time seems to be working. How his body will react after his skin is grafted from another part of his body it is another question.
To top all of this off.... He has no medical coverage. He will have 6 months of
healing and physical therapy before he can even consider started to move again.
Phil and I have been speaking to Jeffs' father Henry and he is in the process of
setting up a Medical Fund for Jeff to help with the expenses. Karen will post this fund information when it is set up with his local bank in Michigan.
It is time for us to ban together as a racing community and help him out as much
as you would want to be helped out by your fellow racers if you were in this situation. Although he has made 10 APBA races this year, because he was testing before the Big Rapids , Michigan event he is not covered under them. I spent alot of time Tuesday on the phone with APBA headquarters in hopes that there was something they could help us with ... there is not he is alone on his own.
I am asking everyone for their help because it is the right thing to do. No boat
racer should ever feel alone , on their own or overwhelmed when they have a racing family to lean on.
It is up to us as his SLT racing family to find it in our hearts and reach out to help Jeff in his time of need. My hopes are that our fellow racing catagories will also follow and find it in their hearts to help Jeff out.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeff for a speedy recovery.
Regards,
APBA Region 5 SLT Activity Chairman,
Karen Zoeller
PS: Jeff Swendrowski can be reached at 616-842-3600 ICU room # 238...His Dad Henry told us not to call him Thursday because he is going in for skin grafts today.
and will be out of it most of the day.
