Thumbs down Upgrade to twin Merc 575SCi motors...$ay what?!

Anybody see in the new Powerboat the Performance Trials?
On the Donzi 33ZX, Upgrading to the 575's from the HP500's will cost you another $52,511.00!!!
And on the 38 Fountain going from a pair of 496Mag H.O.'s to the 575's your going to get hammered another $71,148.00!!!
All I know is that $50,000 will get you a pair of tall-deck blower motors in the 900HP realm.
If I ever was to buy new it would be with base package, or if it could come without any motors at all that would better yet!
Merc is WAY off their rocker...and unfortunately some will pay these ramsom fees for "more power" not knowing better.

very !!!

Im guessing that the Tax bill for Lake-X is getting a bit stiff, or something.

man you hit the nail on the head, just got back from the Houston boat show, the prices on engine upgrades is,well crazy.Mercury parts and engines are high as giraffe pu**y,
i think the prices are even higher since volvo got out of H.P. engines,i think my next boat,i will shop aftermarket, like Keith Eickert engines, his stuff will cost less and perform better, let me get off my soap box now, mark

Yea, they charge more for an up grade than the difference in cost between the 2 motors. Check BAM's web site for what the difference is between a 496 and 575 and then compare that to the upgrade costs!

...that's funny, it only cost me just a little over $5000 per motor to upgrade from 385hp to 600hp.

Need I say more?

are those 600hp motor mercury 600SC's with SSM drives? I do not know of any for 5K more than a 454 mag.

Ok,

That has me thinking about options for repowering a boat. Eickert, Chief, Pfaff, WPM.

Who else builds a quality engine. I went AMD for computers long ago and now I am looking at Merc as the Intel of the boat world.

On the east coast check out Kurts Marine and Pro marine, both in Brick NJ.

Kurt builds the motors for the Muscle Super Vee and many others. Promarine makes the power for Shockwave, Lightning Jacks and many others.
