Sea Pumps
#1
Have been reading about these as mine just started to leak after almost 5 years. Impeller was fine when I took it apart. motor is a 92 - 502 CI Mercruiser. Have read about guys replacing these every season. Seems excessive. What are other boaters experiencing as far as life of sea pump.

I change mine every season so that way I don't have to worry about one failing on a weekend when I would rather be boating than wrenching on my boat in a parking lot somewhere. Impellers are cheap insurance. I do the housing every other time I do the impeller.

G Man,
I though mine was fine but changed the impeller anyway last year, ran some sand thru it on Erie this year , just opened it and found one fin missing and the inner o ring melted into the plastic housing. I will be checking it more often ! Good Luck

I think conditions and amount of use have a lot to do with it. Fresh water vs salt vs sand... etc.... amount of run time.... I'm in fresh water and put 40 hrs on a year... I go several seasons per impeller..... they're cheap enough to do and give piece of mind....
