Default Tis' the Season....

It is that time of the year, when some of you are going to be putting your boats away for the winter.

So I wondered what do you do with your propellers when you winterize your boat.

Hello Julie,
I finally had a chance to figure my Prop slip via GPS. I am at 10% slip. I'm running Hydo's Q4X 25p. Non lab! They are on a non-step 38PQ, HP500's, 71 Mph @5000rpm's. Can I even improve that? Everyone tells me that is all I can expect from a non-step pig
Thanks.

Perfectmix,
You have arrived! At 10% I would say don't touch a thing! But if you are looking to achieve max top end then you should get your RPM up to the 5200. You could adjust a couple of different ways. Food for thought.

OldSchool,

And the winner is........! That is one of the better things that you can do with your propeller. Tune it in the winter to avoid any delay in season! I hate taking time away from your time on the water.

If you all think about it....

Record your WOT RPM and speed via GPS so if you want to work your propeller over the winter season, then we will have some real, hard numbers to work with. If you don't want to track the information call me and I will record it for you! This will ensure more accurate adjustments when you are ready to work your props.

Thanks Julie,
I can't believe I have 10% slip, but those are honest numbers with a half tank of fuel and myself onboard. I will give you a call to discuss options. PM

Sounds great!

I have posted a sale on the propeller cases in the manufacturers. Now you can all protect your propellers on the off season. The cases are also great for shipping and transporting your propellers. Keeping in muind that your propeller is what connnects all of that beautiful HP to the water!!!!!!!!!!

HA HA! Well is it working!

I brought this up because I have already had a client, who put his boat away after Labor Day. But with the weather being as nice as it has been, in some areas, he decided to go for one last run (Marina had not winterized yet) and sure enough someone stole his props!

Man that chaps me!!!!!!!!!!! We worked very hard on dialing him in this year and now we have to do it again. So there you have it, the lecture! Guys don't leave your props on your boats, nothing good can come from it!

So there you have it, thick as it seems!

Well as it would happen, I just tucked my baby away for the winter. But I did remember to grab my spare prop to send in to have some work done.
So here's what I have.
1997 Powerquest 26
454 Mag EFI 385hp/ Bravo1 Drive
23p Mirage Plus
WOT 4800 RPM
Top Speed 57 mph on GPS in calm water with full tank of gas and two adults.

I have seen 59 in about a 1' chop. Keep in mind no step.

Plane time is good, cruise as well, no issues in that department.

Looking to gain some more top end. Other guys with the same setup say they're seeing 62 mph on GPS.

I did get a 21p Mirage plus but due to poor weather late in the year never had a chance to top out.

Whats your thoughts?
