Color shift paint

I am thinking a having a boat painted with the color-shift (flop) paint. Maybe not the whole boat , but a section of the boat with that color. Is that paint expensive? From what I can read it appears easy to paint and to repair later if damaged.

PPG's has a base coat paint that you are talking about called harliquin. (I think thats how its spelled). The last time I priced checked it from my supplier is was 34.00 an ounce. It is very expensive. I was going to use it once to outline a flame job, but I never got the job. I have never sprayed it. If you do, dont make a mistake. Dan

It is very easy to spray. You should spray a black base coat down first the the flop color, then clear. It is also easy to repair. It does look better as one color in a stripe paint job, verses doing the hole car or boat. PPG seems to have the best flop paint to me. Good Luck

actually Brad it is very easy to work with and it repairs well to. rebels cost #'s are pretty much right on but keep in mind that you dont need very much if you are doing just some graphics with it. you just need to base it right an it will cover quickly. you could do a ton of stuff with a pint or so.
by the way your new MTI is a great boat. i have been it it a few times and have always been impressed by the build quality. i like the layout of that boat to. cant wait to see what it will do with the big power an sixes

Brad, Dave and David are right about cost, ease of application, and how much so little will go when adding DBC 500 and DT reducers. There are other imitators out there, but the broadest spectrum of color is attained with Harlequin. I have a few ounces from a previous job if you might want to acquire some. G$

Have the red to blue on the Trans Am for racing stripes. Even thought it is supposed to flip from red to blue there are many other colors that appear at different angles and lighting. Go with the PPG line it is the easiest to work with.

Can't tell we have stripes when the sun's not on it. Blends into the base color.
I was going to use the glow in the dark paint for some accenting but was told it does not hold up well under harsh conditions.
