AMF Offshore announces newest team member
AMF Offshore Racing has one plan for the upcoming 2006 season and that is to conquer the world of powerboat racing. One way the team will be doing this is through expansion-both big and small. Small expansion means AMF will be sponsoring a smaller class boat- A Jersey Skiff. Because AMF Offshore Racing’s proprietor John B. Haggin and AMF distinguished racer Scott Begovich both began their offshore racing careers in Jersey Skiffs, they would like to recognize the importance of this class of racing and pay tribute to the style of racing that triggered the race bug in each of them.
For this reason, AMF Offshore Racing is pleased to announce the 2006 sponsorship of Jersey Skiff Racer-Bill Darby. Darby who hails out of Palm City, FL , is currently the 2005 APBA Nation Champion as well as the APBA Eastern Divisional Champion. Darby will continue to race the APBA inboard circuit in Darby’s Rapture JS-133 which will run as Darby’s Rapture/AMF for the 2006 season. In keeping with the spirit of AMF, the boat will run with the new number JS-13
History of the Jersey Skiff
The Jersey Speed Skiff emerged on the national race scene in the early 1940s after the APBA placed them in a “special event” racing category. Then following World War II, the APBA recognized the skiffs as a probationary class and they raced under that status. In 1948, the Jersey Speed Skiff became an official APBA class and the first official sanctioned race for the skiff took place in Wyomissing, PA.
During the 1950s the skiffs grew in popularity when they saw the magic 50mph barrier fall. This was followed by the introduction of the fiberglass hull and the transition from wood to glass in the 1960s. This led to their increased popularity and visibility on the race scene and in the 1980s the skiff class became a 'national' class. At this point speeds were on the rise and skiffs were averaging in the 80mph range. Another major advancement was the introduction of the roll cages and safety harnesses. Today the class continues to flourish and deserves as much attention as do all other classes.

They are even more fun to race 
Those were the good ole days of $65 entry fees and 2k motors
Darby will be a great asset to us and I can't wait to see him race.
