Besides being dicontinued? They were being used on cats alot because of the shorter lowers 
Less drag. I was intrested in a boat with V's but I already have a boat TRS's and that's already a pain in the ass finding units when you blow them

The V's and the 3a's are virtually the same except for the shorter lowers on the V's. Merc may be discontinuing them (both 3a and V) before the Miami boat show from what I've heard.
