If I'm on my boat, on the river going down-stream with a 4mph current, how fast am I going if the GPS says 85mph?

Depends if you are going east,west, north or south. Remember, the earth rotates and that needs to be figured in.

Turn around and go up stream against the current, see what the GPS says .

The GPS measures speed over ground.You're going fast.About 85 mph either direction.

Well Reggie won most of world speed records with one of those gps units your talking about, it said 161 mph but the jet ski passing him said 54 so I CANT FIGURE
