The engine is out of the boat and wanted to get some input on cleaning the bilge and repainting. Whats best for cleaning before painting. How to prepare the surfaces and what to use to paint it. I'm not sure whether you can paint it or have to re-gel it. Never done it before, but I'm mechanically savy so I think I could do it.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated! I'm not usre if there is thread on this or not.
Thanks,
Shawn
P.S. If you see this CLAY,,I'm doing it just for you!!

Clean and de-grease it about 10 times. Start sanding, several months later you should be ready. Just kidding but not too much, I thought about doing mine but decided it was way too much work for not that much gain. If theres any oil or grease left on the surface, nothing will bond to it. I've heard of people using Awlgrip paint with good results. Surface preparation is the key to any good paint job. Good Luck

A buddy repainted his bilge last winter with Rustoleum. Looks and has held up great. Seems very durable. No experince with Awlgrip other than comes highly recommended. Maybe a price difference factor??
