I always wonder how some of you guys go about getting your sponsors. The boating related ones like Mercury and motor oils are self explanatory, but some are kinda random it seems. For example, how do you go about getting a company like "Nesquik" to sponsor a race boat? I would think it would be challenging.

in most cases, you dont just get a sponsor like nesquick to sponsor a race boat. you have to know somebody who can get you in the door.

LOL, no. I'd never make a race with my schedule! I just see some really random sponsor names on some of the boats and wonder how they chose them as a potential investor. I know it's difficult to get sponsors and was just wondering how people go about it from scratch.

Im my very humble opinion, it is very very hard to get sponsorships for offshore racing. These big companies have big bucks to spend on marketing and so forth. But they also want a return on their investment.
ie: TV coverage, sales from products that they may promote at the race sites, ect ect ect. I would bet that 50 percent or more of the teams that have ever been sponsored by big Corporations, were most likely good friends with someone in that organization, that had some connections with a big wig in the marketing department. Otherwise, they'de get more exposure wrapping a H2 Hummer in Vinyl and driving around the city streets. Or sponsoring some other form of sport that gets regular TV coverage.

ie: NHRA, IRL, Spelling Bees, Poker championships ect ect ect.

Well first we leave the "c" outta Nesquik, that pisses them off like you can't imagine. Bruce is 100% correct, my Uncle owns a milk company and distributes Nestles Products.
