more then likly its in the senders, but could be any number of things from a bad ground to bad gauges but most times its in the sender leads....

glad you think simple to replace...25 years doing this...easy for me but without the right tools and exp. not easy or simple....requires disassembling the transom bell housing(waiting for you to say splice them in..will only live a short time)

I agree, probably senders, round modules on top sides of outdrive. Sort of a wiper effect sender, just two screws to take them off.

No I would never splice a line, that's why you buy the complete kit.If you can get it off and apart, clean it thoroughly and fill with di-electric grease. This has worked well for me. Note where it is before loosening the screws.
