Effects of stand off boxs
#1
What effect will stand off boxs have on bow lift and what happens to CG. Moves forward or aft?? I have -2"shortie with 1"spacers. I would like to go with imco nuetral boxs and NO spacers.

D,
I am looking at putting Stellings boxes on my Cafe when I repower...so I've been doing soem research on boxes for that application.
I would guess that the pivot point moves aft and probably the CG. I also think that unless you plan on closing up the transom, a nuetral box will not work. Moving the props aft has the same affect as lowering the X, and you'll be able to lose the spacers, but I dont think that will be enough...
Hopefully someone on the board has done this on a Scarab like yours and con offer more than my "I think..."
Good luck...let us know your results.

Have you considered MerCruiser Integrated Transom? It combines a stand-off box and hydraulic steering.
The new I.T.S. features integral power steering cylinders and a lightweight, removable plastic cover which allows access to concealed hydraulic steering and trim hoses.
I wonder if any has a pair of used ones that they will sell me?

I have the Imco Standoff Box and 2" shorty drive. The Imco set up is much beafier than the Mercury set up. Sorry I do not have any pics.
Not too mention the steering comes off the transom assembly which keeps the transom neet and free of clutter like the above Mercury set up..

Heres a pic of the IMCO's... this is the only one I have on this puter.
Iamfaster, Yes...You should be able to take out the spacer when you mount the boxes.
I have the -2's on neutral set backs with a non stepped bottom.

Sean, good luck with your project..did you start yet? i didnt completely spend my kids college fund on the motors and drives.....although looking for used..
I would "think" your hull would benifit from boxs as well. It would b nice to see the CR this summer. I called a couple of 38' scarab owners who added boxs. Improved handeling as far as running flatter off swells, but both added HP at same time, so couldnt get idea if boxs helped speed.
Why would i have to close up transom holes with the imco's? I think you may be right as far as 1" less(no spacers) may still leave drives a little deep. Maybe Stellings.
Anybody know if bow lift increases with set-back?
Titan.....where r those pics??

If one had the choice between using ITS/XR's or Stellings/XR's or IMCO is there a reason to go with one or the other all dimensions being equal? I was under the impression that the ITS set up was similarly priced to the others?
