I have an old target trailer with a prop guard. Unfortunately, I have to unbolt the prop guard every time I launch the boat. I'm going to weld it on with some hinges and wanted some examples.

Can you post some pics of your swinging prop guards?

Hi-

I have a trailer that had the prop guard welded on, and am converting it to hinged. I am having 8 plates made- 4 to weld to the trailer, and 4 to weld to the rear bar.

The rear bar fits between the main runners. The 4 plates that attach to the rear bar are L shaped and weld to the rear bar so that they extend out over the main runners and rearward. The other 4 weld to the main runners, extending rearward.

The result is that the pivot point is about 1.5 inches to the rear of the outside rear corners of the trailer

My tail lights are mounted to the rear bar. With that geometry, the tail lights will not be pushed against the trailer with the bar swung 270 degrees, against the main runners- there is about 1.5 inches of clearance due to the offset .

I am also providing for a stop which will let me swing the bar 180 degrees and lock it in place- tail lights facing forward. I will be able to check the trailer tail lights from my rearview mirrors!

Do the 8 plates have hinges?
My rear plate already fits between the main c-channels but it bolts on.
I need to know the hinge configuration so i can machine them up and weld them on.

Here is the swing drive guard on our Myco. The rear swing part of the guard is slightly bent in these pics (hit the ground), but that has since been corrected. I hope that these pics help. If you decide to copy their design exactly, you might want to contact Myco first to be sure that it is OK with them.
