Default oil temp gauges on 288 w/ h.o.

mine has never read above 140 since the day I took delivery of the boat. Called sunsation, and they said that it's because of where the sending unit is placed, but gave me instructions how to peg the sender to check it... anybody w/ an h.o., what does your oil temp. gauge read ??????????????

Hi Chris, I have the 496 HO but no oil temp gauge? Did you mean the oil pressure gauge?

pressure seems to work fine,, 60 at start up 40 while running and 25 at idle.. It's the oil temp. gauge that never budges above the 140 mark. Barrie at sunsation claims this is normal, I say it isn't, there are millions of boat running around that show oil temp. just wondering if anyone else w/ a 288 or H.O. is seeing this and maybe it is a problem where merc. is placing the senders... Thanks Chris

That does not sound off to me - but what do I know. I think it would be interesting to know where the sender is - if it is right after the oil cooler then I would think this is ok. You have fresh water cooling it at that point.

Has it changed since the boat was new?

Where is the sender located Chris?
If you ground the wire to the sender, the gauge should peg all the way. then you know it's not the gauge.

The boat has never since day one read above 140..

Its at the dealer now and they are going to check the gauge and sender,,, Service manager he talked to Barrie, they are going to check the location of the sender, they might have placed the sender in the wrong location on a couple of boats or something,,, so hopefully they will figure it out and I will have some oil temps..

I have a friend with a 35 fastek which one water temp never got to 140. Formula dealer replaced senders, gauge etc, never fixed it. Then we were talking to the local mechanic while at a gas stop - he came out and scratched some paint off where the ground wire was attached and everything worked fine.
