Default Need help from a motor head

I am considering a pair of dart heads for a Gen V 454, 330 hp motor, motors are almost new, probalby 30 hours. I need recomendations on either the 308 or 345 intake port, and carbaration, intake, and cam. Basically I am looking to change out the top end of the motor and put a set of headers on it, trying to pick up 100 or so hp each motor. I am looking to build as much power with basically stock parts to keep reliability high.

Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brain.

Definetly not the 345 runners. You will get more useful rpm out of a smaller runner. For instance, I have only 315 runners on my 540. Your 454 will need less. I would suggest plugging in numbers into a desktop dyno until you get it right. If you enter the information correctly, it comes up real close. My desktop dyno was incredibly close to my real dyno numbers, I should have saved the $$.

Go with the oval port Edelbrocks. They work great on a 454 and they come with inconel exhausts at a great price. Rectangular ports are too big for 454's unless you want to turn some high rpm's.

Dean, I agree with what Checkmate said. Bigger isn't always better. Someone who could help you in selecting the correct combination for your cubic inches, RPM, and application is "rmbuilder"/Bob Madara. He has the knowledge, experience, and integrity to help you with your project, and had helped engineer my head, and cam combination for my own 565cid marine engines as well as several other guys on here. He is very helpful and get you headed in the right direction. You can either PM him or call him at Marine Kenetics in New York 585-654-8583.
