Default new excursion limited v10

looking at tow rigs, that could also be used as everyday car. my mom has an 03 denali xl, but cant trailer near enough. we see that the new excursion 4wd with the v10 tows the same as the deisel, and would rather have a deisel, becuase its much harder to get diesel than gas. it claims trailer weight of 11,000 for the excursion v104wd...what is the difference between a 410 and 3.73 gear ratio? we are looking at finding a place that we could order the vehicle, and could customize w/ larger shocks, ecm remap, kn air intake, better exhaust, etc.. also, we heard about how you can switch the rear wheel to a dually with a dummy wheel that bolts onto the original or something like that when you want to use it. we also would want it set up for trailering etc, and with a weight distribution system. if anyone knows of a place that does this, or has a website please post. thanks

Last truck was a f350 w/ v10, just got back from towing my topgun from texas to mi. w/ my duramax. All I kept thinking is I cant imagine doing this w/ my last truck. Through the hills the diesel didnt even down shift from high gear.

I have a V-10 Excursion, nice tow vehicle but go with the diesel the V-10 lacks the low end torque and it uses fuel when towing

Not buiding the Excursion any more. But if you find a leftover or a used one GET A DIESEL!!@!.
My V-10 gets 5.7 MPG towing 7000#s no matter if it is at 35mph or 80mph!
Not towing 12-13 in town and 14-15 Highway at 80mph or 16-17 at anything below 2000rpm.
BUT it rides great..drives great..tows great

Don't buy a v-10 ,buy the diesel because you will get on a stock unit 18 to 19 mpg and 15 in the city. When tow a 10,000 lb boat the mpg is around 14.A v10 wil only give 10 to 11 at best and towing around 8 mpg.My freind has had both gas and diesel and the deisel is one hell of a unit. He put the banks setup on it and in flat out hauls ass and by the way it pulls empty 21.4 mpg after the mods. If you can get one that is clean and has the 7.3Litre.His excursion will tear any duramax deisel to peices. For a good 2003 your going to spend around $28,000 to $31,000..........Good Luck and again don't buy the V-10

V-10 Gas will kill you, it can take it but it sucks on gas.

Diesel is the way to go...

I tried both...

How often are you going to be towing? I just bought a new F-350 with a V-10,as far as a daily driver I like it a lot more than my 7.3 that I had. It's quieter, gas is about 35 to 50 cents cheaper (depending on the day),5000 bucks cheaper initially, and I am not a fan of the 6.0.The new V-10 is a three valve motor it has a lot more power than the old one. That is what I looked at when I bought this truck,if you got horses you need to feed them,I don't have a truck to go buy a newspaper,we towed things for years with big blocks and it was just fine so don't let anyone tell you that a gas engine won't pull.Sure it probably won't be as strong as my old truck but I kind of looked at the whole picture.
