Default No. 3, 4 & 5 SSM

I am trying to determine if a drive offered to me is a No. 3, 4 or 5. What is the easiest way to distinguish them? Also, are the gimbals the same? I need to see them tonight so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what would be a fair price for the drive and for the gimbal if they are in good condition?

well i know the prop shafts are different heights, as well as skeg length thats about all i know about em

That is a V....Short cav plate & 6 inches shorter than a 3-3a

A lot of variables, one thing applies to all in this class of drive; if you do not know or believe the service history of a drive and/or do not have credible documentation of most recent service, you must deduct the cost of doing that service or at least consider it with the overall appearance(paint ,corrosion, dings, propshaft runout, gearlube evaluation etc. etc.)This lack of knowledge of the drives integrity puts it's value at the low end of the scale. Now 3's & 4's and to some extent 5's do not enjoy support of factory parts.3A's & 5's can handle a bunch more torque.The 4 & 5 are much shorter and have issues on heavy Vhulls so if it matches your stuff, it's a spare!I have bought several from $750.00 to $6k w/ some including gimbals.If an SSM drive has had a major falure in many cases not much is reuseable but the propshaft. I did not mean to run on, but there is so much that affects your situation. Just my humble experience driven opinion.
