Tell me what to use to polish scratches out of stainless, I have a set of CMI E tops that need some work.

Well depending upon the depth of the scratches, we would begin with the appropriate grit of sandpaper and progress to 400-600 grit. Then off to the buffer for a round with polishing compounds. There you have it!

If you have to paper the tubes you have some pretty deep scratches and a in depth process. You may be able to use a light stainless polishing compound and get the results you need.

I wear gloves and my hands are smooth as a babies bottom.

I've noticed in Home depot, in the tool section, they have a kit with small buffing wheels and polishing compound all in one.

That would clean up the stainless and bring the luster back. But, if you have actual scratches you can feel then buffing will not take them out. Buffing will only take out scratches that you can see, but not feel.

what rpm is best?

Faster is better!!!! Not necessarily, If you are using a drill with a 3" wheel turn it as fast as the drill will go. If you were able to turn a 3" wheel faster about 3000-5000 would work well. If you can get your hands on some green buffing compound that would be best, it's for stainless.
