Default ~Boat terms, parts & definitions trivia~

For the most part, I know my way around a boat, but sometimes I need to think when someone throws out a term like, crashbox. Let's hear your definitions of different terms and parts for a boat? Maybe we could all learn a little here...

I'll start: What's your definition of the term "helm"?

Ask, answer or add to as you please...

Before I was in to performance boats I would say the helm is the station where you pilot your vessel from. Today I am coming to realize that the term helm is referred to the type of steering helm in the boat? Anyone else have an idea?

This is a good thread. It is actually about boats for once!! Keep it going....................

I have another question?

What is the term you use when docking your vessel? Is it referred to Parking or Docking?

And do you tie your boat with ropes or lines?

All right now you're confusing me... I had to think again...

Well you refered to it as docking in your question. I call it parking at the dock. See, this stuff really makes you think...

I refer to them as ropes and I guess sometimes lines also...

There are no ropes on a boat. There are lines, rodes, howsers, stays, and so forth.
