So what has the boating world missed by not having one of the great innovators for the last 19 years?
I have taken some of the photos from our HORBA website which is not up yet, to remember Don on this day. He was my friend and a great competitor in all areas of life.
Here is Don in front of Cigarette on 188th st.

Don had many talents, but playing the steel drums was not one of them.
Don and Doc Magoon after winning most of the hardware, celebrated after a Bahamas race with their version of a steel drum band.

This photo shows Don donating $500,000 to a black college that was located outside of Atlanta Ga. You never read the stories of his generosity in the past, not as colorful but still part of the man.

Yes, Don actually won a race driving a boat made by Cigarette. He and Jim Wynne teamed up to take this 36 footer to victory.
Remember that the famous photo of Don up in the air, is of him driving a 32 foot Cary built boat named "The Cigarette", not an actual Cigarette.
This photo is the only one I know of him actually winning a race with a Cigarette.

I just bought Speed Kills. It is being shipped to me. It is out of print now so the only copies out there are used. You can find a good price on it if you look hard enough.
He is and always be a legend.
