Default changing sbc's from late to early style

I have an 89 29 Fountain with with twin 350 mag carb motors and the later style centre bolt heads with alpha one's........Im putting a set of early style "010" four bolt main style block motors in it ........ is it a simple re and re??.......will my present coupler work??...... flywheel???.......I got Q Jets and am switching to 750 double pumpers....will the carb linkage work???.......anything else???

so far every thing that you mentioned will work as simple bolt in, you didnt mention intakes.. they will need to match the mtr along with the flywheel

If your original motors have center bolt valve covers, most likley they have a 1 piece rear main seal. The new 010 blocks are old style, they have a 2 piece rear main seal. That means the flywheels and harmonic balancers will not interchange. You will need new ones. If your couplers are the style that bolt directly to the crank, sandwiching in the flywheel, they will not fit your 010 blocks. However, if the couplers bolt to the outside if the flywheels, like a pressure plate on a car clutch, they will fit your new flywheels.

Even if you have the correct "triangle" couplers, if there are signs of wear on the splines, replace them. Might as well do it while you have the motors off.

Oh yeah, make sure you get 14" flywheels, not the 12 3/4" I found that one out the hard way

I thought Id have to get new flywheels.......we'll have a good look at the couplers.......the new motors come with balancers.......doug

The early,79 and down, blocks have the dipstick on the port side of the block. I coudn't find a dip stick to work with the stock exhaust. When Merc went to center risers the dipstick went to the starboard side. Let me know if you find anything that works. Paul

I had the dipstick problem when I changed motors. I used a Proform dipstick from Summit. Milodon also makes one for this engine. The braided stainless tube adds bling to any motor.

Im gonna run Revoluton Marine exhaust manifolds......we'll see how that works out.....and im all for bling!!!
