Can anyone tell me which hub I need to use on a Maximus. I have a 1999 Bravo 1 Performance Drive and am currently spinning a 4 blade Bravo 1 prop.
When I installed the hub in the Maximus from the Bravo 1, it is flush with the drive side of the prop. Where as the Bravo 1, it receases about a 1/4" in where a stepped brass washer goes onto the output shaft of the drive to the tappered end of the output shaft.....Does this make sense to anyone?

You need the shorter insert. There are two lengths available, you have the long one in the Bravo prop. The proper part number is 850821Q12 for the short insert. You may also consider getting the entire kit with a new insert, thrust washer, nut, and lock washer. Buying the entire kit is not that much more than buying the insert by itself. Part number for the kit is 835258K2 (Mercury) or 835258Q2 (Quicksilver).
If you have a mill handy you can just cut down the insert you have now.

What Matt said!
Here is the story behind it.
Your Bravo 1 prop is a Mercruiser casting instead of a Mercury Marine casting. We changed the hub depth by .240" in 1999 on the Bravo 1 and Mirage just to make things confusing. LOL
Actually it was to uniform the Mercury line. It caused confusion throughout the industry. Man I used to get alot of calls about that back in 2000. For a while I kept a list of the questions to show what a cluster it was.
The problem was the chopper and cleaver propellers still used the long hub (K1) and the Bravos and Mirages were now using the short hub (K2). We had to stock both kits at Merc Racing and make sure the techs. got the right ones in the right prop.
If a guy had the long insert in the short bore, the thrust washer only mates to the insert not the prop casting. Likewise the short insert in the deep bore will only mate to the prop casting instead of a full engagement with both like it should be. There are still many, many people out there running the wrong inserts.
** You should have a 1/4" depth or step between the prop casting and the insert when you look at the front of the prop(boat side).
Like Matt said, buy the whole kit. You get a new nut that way (they do wear out). We have them if you can't find them locally. $55
by the way, nice job on the pictures, that always helps in figuring out a situation!!
