My original powerplant was a 350 cu/in SBC -- boat did 67 on GPS with a Volvo/Cobra SX outdrive. New motor is 406 SBC dynoed at 512hp. Since I will obviously be exceeding 70mph with this combo, I want to switch to external steering. Can anybody point me in the correct direction for external steering with this outdrive.

Boat: 1989 Starcraft Startron I -- 21ft

Note: when the steering is cold, it is a little difficult to steer, but boat is rock steady at speed. When it warms up, steering is easy, but nose of boat wanders slightly from side to side.

My last boat had an SX drive and I was planning to take the measurements and have a wing plate built. No one makes a wing plate for the drive that I could find.

have never seen one, The way the volvo drive bolts up makes it very difficult to bolt a wing plate to it
