1.36 drives are generally used on boats that have enough power to run close to or exceed 100mph...

I agree. Dont go to 1.36 gears until you run out of props for a 2.50 gear. If you are running a stock 454 magnum, dont even think about chnaging gears.

The boat i bought had Big power in it and was running over 100 mph...when i bought boat stock Mag was put back in....Can i tell the gears without pulling the outdrive...I am atleast 5 mph slower that i should be with a stock mag motor and thats the only thing i can think that might be causing it......
Was Told i can turn the prop shaft 1 turn and watch how far the shaft moves ..is this correct..but what am i looking for...For example....if it is 1.5 and i turn shaft 1 turn..shaft will rotate 1 1/2 turn and if its 1.36 it will turn about 1 or so...Is this correct...
how about the nose cone...will it slow me down that much..Thanks
Are the gears in the upper or lower case if i have to have them changed

If you're boat's in the water and running, start calculating prop slip. You know the available ratios. You presumably will know your speed, RPM, and prop pitch. Do the calculation with each available ratio until you come up with a reasonable slip number. If you have 1.36 gears and do the math with a 1.50 ratio, you'll come out with about 0 slip... that means you don't have a 1.5 ratio.
