All,
This may be a novice question, but what is the best setup to anchor a Stinger? I like to go a little offshore and anchor and hang out. Or sometimes inland on the the St. Johns here in Jax Florida. The problem is that I don't see a good way to use a bow anchor. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Eric

Kind of a pain to anchor off of the bow. If it is shallow I do it by hand. Another idea is to loop your anchor rode into the bow cleat, let the line run over the deck to the cockpit, and then drop the anchor from the side over the gunwale and let it swing out. Obviously you can't do this in tight quarters, but lot's of times you can.
If it is calm I usually anchor off of the stern.
In a pinch I have sent somebody out the hatch.

Is a windlass realistic on this boat? Is there enough room for the line and rode inside the bow? Anyone have a Windlass on a Stinger or similar boat?
If I anchor off the bow manually, should I have another line with an eye on it looped around the anchor line to help with retrieval? It might be challenging to get someone through the hatch...too small for me I think.
Believe it or not I've been using my Stinger to drift fish 20-30 miles off Jacksonville. Not the best fishing boat out there, but its what I have
It gets out there pretty quick..
I'd like to anchor over some ledges and wrecks and think that trying to anchor to the stern might be dangerous offshore.

I had my mirror/bow cover off last year and there was not a whole lot of room in there, plus... the way my 1987 is made.... there is a big bolt that runs from the bow cleat down through the interior of the boat and down to some tabbing at the inside of the keel. May mess with your plan.

had the same boat and i anchored off our local beach just about every weekend. i would usually set the stern unless it was choppy than i would do both. i just got use to climbing over the wind shield, now i have a bit farther to walk this year
hows it going Jon. you ready for another season, same dock at LP? hope to see ya out there

I think I am ready. Been working my azz off at work.
Maybe getting the boat out of the warehouse and bringing it home to start checking things this weekend.
I gave up the LP dock (too much money) and got a dock back at ORYC. About halfway down G dock. (The one nearest to Outings Unlimited)
I have been meaning to ask you... you had almost the same boat, I know that your blocks were freshened up and you had alphas which are lighter than my Cobras.... but what were you average fuel numbers? I remember that you put a fuel flow meter in the 26 last year.
I have been wondering what kind of numbers you saw at a couple different common RPMs?
I figure that those numbers would be close enough for a guesstimate of mine.
Thanks!

NP....I climbed up front and had a close look. There isn't enouigh room up there for a locker. If I put in a windlass I would have to put some kind of container in front to catch the rope and chain.
Another guy down here told me he ties off at the stern, runs his anchor line out front then brings the anchor back into the cockpit. He has another line with an eye on it that he passes the anchor rope through to help bring the anchor line back toward the cockpit to aid in retrieval. I'll probably try that first and see how it works...a windlass would be nice though.
