First of all I know this thread is not about boats but it is about SPEED...

Anyway, I think somebody out there can help me. I am in the market for a Shifter/TaG Kart and anyone with advise is always great.

Been thinking about going Kart Racing myself. I think I would prefer asphalt myself. Would love to hear input from any OSO'ers that are in the know.

i u havent raced before dont start out in a shifter... 100cc yammie stock is plenty fast... or look at the rotax max package

I have a 2005 crg 125cc shifter kart with a honda 125 engine. I went with the shifter because it is alot more fun to drive. If you want to race, I'd probably suggest the tag. If you are just looking for having fun, go with the shifter. I went with the crg because of a crg dealer that's close, otherwise I would have bought a birel. If I was picking a kart purely for racing, I'd rate them as birel #1, crg #2, and intrepid #3. Get ready for a real workout!

Did some custom work on a Purdue students cart he raced in the Purdue Grand Prix last month. (he won BTW) He had an air shifter on it donated from a company in England, (I think from there, overseas anyways ) kinda like the nascar guys run. Has a small compressor that runs off a cam on the rear axle. pretty slick setup!

Get with the locals guys racing in your area & see what everyone else is doing. Tag is great if it is well supported in your area. 100 Yamaha class is a great place to learn if it is well supported in your local area. No fun buying a kart & find yourself racing against the same 2 or 3 guys. Try & find someone to help you that is a regular racer as there is a bunch to learn on setting up a kart to be compeditive. If I were do it over again, Tag or a Shifter would be my choice. Good luck

I am thinking TaG but I totally understand the "shifters" are more of a "driving" machine. The CRG that I am most likely buying is shifter, but Bud Rice (Buddy Rice's dad) is removing the front brakes and thus making it a TaG.

I have ran shifters for a long time. I got into tags about 5 years ago. VERY low maint. (gas and go). I have seven karts
in my trailer today. I like the Leopard engine over the Rotax.
There are no jets to change, and the leopard has a charging system so yoiu don't have to plug the bat. in to charge it. I would look into who is sell what in your are. I have 3 KGB, 2 Haas, and 2 Margays. They are all fine karts. If you woiuld like more info give me a call 608-558-2010.

I raced karts in the UK and here in the US for about six years. I would highly recommend that you get some seat time in a direct drive 100cc kart. Whole different driving style but also makes you a way better kart driver.

I don't know what chassis is good now, however studying results from some major kart races should point you in the right direction. I ended up running opens. At the time (1980) I was spending a small fortune on clutches, tires and engine freshen-ups. Not to mention travel expenses.

Great fun and a great bunch of people. Nothing I have raced since has given me the same thrill.
