any way of doing this and getting a near correct number...
isn't it supposed to be 5-10% of gross weight??
how far should your centerline on your winch be from the trailer tounge itself...

You can also go to a private scale at a truck stop; landfil, or stone/sand quarry. Weigh the boat with the trailer wheels on the scale.; and the rear wheels of your truck just off the scale. Then, back up a couple feet, and drop the tongue jack onto the scale, and lift the coupler completely off the ball/hitch on your truck. Then subtract.

There's a simple way to measure your tongue weight with a home scale. Just make sure you have a strong enough beam to support the tongue and make sure the trailer and this setup is pretty level.
Tongue Weight = Scale Reading X (B / A)
Tongue Weight = Scale Reading X (B / A)
