hp 500 timing

if i remember correctly on a hp 500 carb motor you set the total timing at 34% at 3200 rpms is that correct and also do you have to unplug any wires or anything, or do you just set it. also i am running msd boxes does that make a difference.

On my carbed motors (HP 500) I have the Crane HI-6M box and IF you are NOT using the factory installed ignition module or Knock sensor, just set the timing. You can be between 34-36 degrees total advance. If you have a curve setting on your box, you should have all the timing in by 2500 rpms...Hope this helps.

Do you have a TB IV or TB V ignition?????
On a TB IV, you just set it and do not have to unplug anything. On a TB V, you have have to disconnect a wire or something like that. I'm not for sure on the specifics as I've never had a TB V. The MSD box does not change any of this.
You should have full advance at 3000rpms on an HP500. It uses a 20* advance module.

On a HP 500 carbed with Thunderbolt V you need to ground the short purple and white wire that comes out of the bottom of the distributor. This puts the system in base timing mode. Set full advance at 34*. Should have initial advance of 14*. Unground the purple and white wire restoring the ignition to normal. All done.
