Replaced both bilge pumps (first time in 18 years) with identical lovette 900's in old fountain while port engine was out, tested the automatic setting with water before installing engine several times, ran in hand several times both pumping strong, install engine and second trip out was flushing bilge with fresh water as I usually fill bilge until pumps kick on to flush seawater out of pumps and fittings, starboard pump pumps fine, port pump just squeals as in the motor is turning but the pump is not. Toggled the switch on/off several times, tapped on the top of the pump with the boat hook (only thing thin enough to reach the pump between the engines. Question is, what is left to try before I have to pull the exhaust and riser off that side to be able to reach and remove the pump?

it sounds like something got stuck in it, the lovett pumps are about as top of the line as you can get, in all my time working on boats I have never seen one go bad that soon , maybe Ive just been lucky
