I am looking to replace my water pickups to throughhull scoops with grates since the existing transom ones are too small, leak a bit, and dont perform very well - I suspect internal runst at the 90-degree weld or they are coming out of the water too easily on plane. Performance guys - I know - but this thing is a beast anyway and the 2 mph I lose is no big deal - I want cool engines.
Couple questions:
1) Hoses are all 1 1/4" ID so I assume throughull and shutoff valve should be larger ID than 1 1/4 correct?
2) Should I leave my existing transom mount pickups or cut them off and plug them.

I made this change on my 357SR1. We had the engines out and electrolysis had eaten the transom mounts. I stcuk with same sizes as hose for strainer, thru-hulls and seacock valve. Had plenbty of water flow and engine temps stayed right on spec. Was running FC EFI 454's with TRS drives.
