There has been a lot about damaged cams lately, some of which I feel is caused by heavy springs. Bad break in on flat tappets and some of the crumby oils take their toll. The need for high spring pressure was for higher RPM's to eliminate valve float, I have been told the higher lifts do need heavy springs but running in the 5k range just how heavy. I think our cams would last a lot longer going to lighter but adequate springs, would like input on what we really need.

I always set up valve springs myself. I dont trust anyone else to do it. With that said, I set them up as per manufacturers recommendations for the given cam. I dont like to set them up heavy or light. They both have their disadvantages as far as set-up. A little light on initial install may become way to light after a some hours are put on them. Too heavy is no better. It will just beat up the valve train for no reason, especially hydraulic lifters.
