Default Best Prop for Fountains?

I am going to be trying props for my 35' soon and was wondering if I am going to be staying with a 4 blade, do the Quad 4's or Bravo's make more sense? I have heard that the Hydro is best for top speed, however, I have also heard that the labbed Bravo is just as good if not better. Any opinions?

Give Brett at BBlades a call. I am sure he can help you find the right props. He came straight from Mercury Racing and he knows his trade very well.

What is the year of your hull? This may help as well as defining your goals.

The year is right under my name. 2001 Fountain, Classic. Goal is top speed and great mid-range numbers. I am definitely going for the top numbers. Thanks.

I would recommend Hydro QIV's for top end.

And your reasoning ? Why not the Bravo 4B's or a 5B style for this application.

And if the X was raised via - 2" lowers , would the recommendation be the same ?

From my experiences with the 35's the Hydro QIV's are faster props on the boat. But I really think your goals should be taken into consideration. What is it that your are trying to achieve or improve?

Good question Ragged Edge. That is my question, also. I would hate buy props now and then purchase different ones in a short time.

We had a 2000 35 Lightning, standard length gear case. 5 blades Hydromotives, 27 pitch, running 1.36 gear ratio. They were good planing, and crusing, slower on the top end by 3-4 mph. The B1's 30 pitch, good planing slower by 3-4 mph about the same speed as the 5 blades. Hydromotive 4 blades, fastest top end, slower to plane, and slipped more when crusing. But it just depends on what you want.

It's a real question. And I would honestly like to see an answer. I have three sets of props now for the Fountain and want to get two sets worked over to tweek them to run a little better. I'm looking for someone to do that but before I spend that kind of money I'm going to know the why's of their statements.

So throttleup can you explain the reasons ? Don't be afraid to get technical, I think we can understand.
