Upgraded / aftermarket rotors for F-250
#1
Does anyone have any experience with slotted or cross drilled rotors on the tow vehicles. I have a 99 F-250 with 120hp chip, intake and exhaust and tow my 30 Spectre on a steel trailer couple times a week and want to improve breaking. Suggestions ?

Make sure you torque the lugs correctly, as well. Wrong torque has been known to create rotor issues. I believe there is a company called A.R.T. that also carries cryo treated rotors.

Cross drilling may look cool but for your application it can decrease the braking. You will be taking away material from the rotor and will make it lighter. Less material on the rotor will be less to assist stopping. Also many of the cross drilled and slotted rotors are made from materials that are inferior to the factory rotors. The easiest improvement that you can make is to upgrade the pad compound. The factory will compromise the pads for noise, dust and performance. The better performing pads may dust more and be noisier. If you want the best brake package without making caliper and wheel changes, look at the Performance Friction website. www.performancefriction.com We are a major distributor for them and supply a tremendous amount of their product to various dealers. Their kit consist of a high quality US made rotor (no slotting or drilling) with a separate rotor hat and pads matched to the rotor and application. The nice thing about the 2 piece rotor design is that it allows you to replace just the rotor the next time. The rotor supplied in the kit is made by Performance Friction but other quality rotors are available from several sources and the rotor is a standard configuration since the hat is separate.
Cryo treatment does make a difference. The poorer the quality of the rotor, the bigger difference it will make. It generally does not increase performance as much as it increases the life of the rotor and resistance to warping.
Let me know if you are interested in the Perf Friction components and I will see what we can do to help.

Todd,
I'm nearing a brake job on my '04 Excursion 6 liter...towing my 22' Pachanga isn't real taxing on the brakes but I'd love better all around stopping power l(ots of idiot drivers here in the Nations capitol...)
Can you shoot me an e-mail or PM?
Thanks,
Ken
