I am rebuilding the 502 blower motor in my boat and I was wondering if there is concerns using either type of pump? I personally dont care wich one it is but Id like to know what you guys have found and or running? I have the merc 8 Qt pan. Thanks Greg

High volume is what you need, pressure that is too high is not your friend. And it takes more horsepower to raise the pressure over what is normally used. Also most blower motors are set up with looser bearing tolerances which will need a lot of volume to keep the pressure normal.

I HAVE HEARD DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT OIL PRESSURE AND VOLUME...........NO ARGUMENT FROM ME ABOUT VOLUME, BUT I WILL ARGUE ABOUT PRESSURE I LIKE TO SEE 80 POUNDS ALL THE TIME. MY ENGINE BUILDER HOSED ME ON THE PUMP JUST A PLAIN BIG BLOCK PUMP. I GUESS THATS WHY I AM REPLACING THE CAM KNOW.....BUT I DID PUT IN THE MOROSSO BILLIT PUMP AND SHIMMED THE SPRING FOR MORE PRESSURE.....
RESON WHY I LIKE PRESSURE IS BECAUSE OIL OBVIOUSLY GETS HOT IN A MARINE ENGINE, NO SHOCKER THERE, SO WHY NOT AT LEAST KEEP BLOWING THE OIL ON THE ROTATING PARTS EVEN IF IT IS HOT.
aGREED THAT TO MUCH WILL CAUSE A BLOW BY BUT AT LEAST IT IS STILL TOUCHING THE PARTS THAT NEED IT.....
IF I AM WRONG JUST KICK ME IN THE NUTS IF YOU EVER SEE ME......
REBUTTLE PLEASE//////////

I was told by a few well known engine builders that the BBC does not have a oiling prob so why try to fix something thats not broken,.But ya also got to consider that some of us run LOOSE bearing clearances.
Me I run the pump(#) in my thread and my engine is real loose on the bottom end so the pressure is lower still

Hey Strip,,,,,,,
My Oil Pressure Was At 40 Pounds Cruising And Coming Off Plane It Would Drop To 15 That Pump Was Just Stock Due You Think I Wasted Money On TheNEW Pump

I'm assuming that you know your oil temps and that they are reasonable.
