Default Repower Help

I have 38 Baja with 502's 350 hours one blown engine. I think the best choice is to repower with 496's.

Do most of you agree and where have been the best prices on a new 496.

Has anyone heard of a Mercruiser repair program where a dealer sells an engine with 10 hours or less and it comes with a 1 year warranty from Mercruiser.

I welcome your thoughts.

I would say it depends on whats wrong with the blown engine. You'll probably have 30k in a pair of 496HO's. Thats a lot of $$$$ for new 502 parts.

Merc does have a factory Certified Pre-owned Warranty Program by Mercury Product Protection, for Dealer resale; both sterndrives and egg beaters. 1 and 2 year coverages are available on qualifying power packages.

I had a 38 with 502's and repowered with 496HO's and absolutley loved it. Have since sold the boat and gone to a 442 with 496's. Wish it had 525's

Thanks for your comments on repower.

Has anybody used the Mercruiser repair engine program. They come with 1 year and be extended for 2 more years for $960.00 each.

Also any idea what my remaining excellent running 502 with 350 hours worth I have no idea.

Thanks Carmine

Yup...talk to a reputable engine builder, I'd think you could get the 502s cranking for much less than new 496s.

I just went through TWO 454's for a third of what you will spend on new 496's, and ALL new stuff except blocks, and they probably make more power, and are as drivable, as the $30K deal....

Granted they are not 502's, but it was not $30K either...
