Default Blower surge...

Yea, I know..."It sounds cool, leave it alone!".

Thats all good but I have a customer with 800's that I cant get it to stop surging! What do you BIG engine builders do besides power valve referencing to stop or help with blower surge?

Thanks a head of time.

I can get mine to ease the surging by leaning the idle adjustment a tad and turning the idle adjustment up a bit. After this is done the idle is too high to engage in and out of gear unless you like a big shock to the drive. Its tough to get away from the surge when you have to keep the idle down low enough in order to shift. Big blowers, big cams = big surge.

Pwrbt33, do you have an intercooler? If not, you should be able to get it correct where it will not surge. If the intercooler is being fed off of the sea pump, it may be more difficult.

ive seen guys use shift interupters in this case

Lean it out increase timing at idle use less advance to keep total the same put a pressure control valve on the innercooler. Try different power valves to keep them closed at idle what engine size intake cam compression ect

Talking Re: Blower surge...

I actually thought about that Joe. I have those on a pair of 900's in a 45' Cigarette. Its actually sad, I can get a pair of 1200's to idle in and out of gear and I cant get this one 800 SC to idle out of gear with out surging. I think I am just going back to square one and check everything over again.

Thank everyone.

The key is to only lean it out at idle not when it gets up in rpm pinging a blower motor is deadly.

when I hit a brick wall I do one of two things........ call everyone I know that has any exp in whatIm working on and ask them to double check me ( no place to be proud we all over look things and a look from out side sometimes helps...hell they call me for the same thing...thats what friends are for )

That was the great thing about working with steve (at all pro now at american ) we alway would double check each other and never felt bad about asking him to........ great guy

or go back to basics

You can just adjust the idle circuit enough to lean it out without making any changes to the jetting, it should have no effect on the amount of fuel once it's off idle. That being said, I have blower surge sometimes too. I've only had it out once since I put a new regulator on it, no surge, but it used to come and go and I'm not really sure it's gone yet.
