last year of 502 mpi

I f I am not mistaken, 2001 was the crossover year they offered both the 502 MAa and the 496.
I have a 502, but when looking for a boat, I was told to stay away from 2001 496's. New engine had a lot of glitches and took a year to iron out.
The 502 burns a little oil but is a very reliable engine. Especially 415hp on stock parts, you can't go wrong.
I haven't done any, but there is a huge aftermarket upgrade path for the 502, so if that is your thing, this is definitely the motor for you.

502's had very stout internals with the exception of mediocre valve train and crappy low tension metric rings that allow them to often have oil control problems,Smitty
