The Port of Canaveral won't allow the ship back into the port until it is deemed safe to operate!

After an accident at sea, at least ten major injuries were reported aboard the Crowne Princess, while about 50 total injured passengers were reported, police said.

The cruise ship departed Port Canaveral late today to return to New York City. The ship is stranded approximately three miles off Port Canaveral, according to a Coast Guard spokesman.

The ship was leaving Port Canaveral after a port-of-call visit when it experienced a “’steering casualty,” or malfunction, which caused it to lean, or “list” to one side. It is not knowN to what degree or to what side the ship is leaning, said Coast Guard spokesman Bobby Nash.

The number and extent of the injuries are not known, Nash said.

“There has been a captain of the port order stating the vessel cannot re-enter the port until it is deemed safe to operate,” Nash said.

Medical personnel are en route. Some 15 ambulances were reported standing by at the port.

The Crowne Princess is 947 feet in length, its gross tonnage is 113,561 and it carries a maximum of 4,800 passengers.

I was watching this from my condo. THe coast guard had it out in the ocean doing all sorts of manuvers to make sure it could dock once it made it to port (I am 5 minutes from port canaveral).

The ship must have done a couple 360s before they allowed it to head toward the port. The inlet is pretty narrow for a ship of that size. I can see why they would be concerned.
