Cleaning exhaust residue safely?

Cleaning exhaust residue safely?
I have some exhaust build up on the transom, drives, and tie bar and was wondering what product will clean it without damaging the clear coat or hoses? It's on there pretty good so soap and water won't cut it. What do you guys use? Thanks!

I used ZEP orange cleaner/degreaser on the diesel smoke on the Carver last weekend, and it came right off 
Wish I would have thought to use that years ago 
I have tried many others, and this is the best so far.
Home Depot carries it.
