Default Acetone added to your fuel tank? (gas or diesel)

Has anyone heard of adding a small amount of acetone to your fuel (gas or diesel) to increase your mileage? I have been reading about it and I am going to try it in my Duramax Diesel. I guess you only need to add 3-4 .oz to increase your mileage by 2-3 mpg... Things that make you go, hmmmm...???

Interesting. I've added Tolulene for increased octane/detonation resistance.

I have read that most 110 /118 octane gas is 80% tolulene,I tried to find it in 55 gallon drums wholsale but didn't have any luck.Any one else thats going to do it after reading this just keep in mind it is very bad for your body if you get it on you and it can stain your gelcoat,so be careful,Smitty

I have found that the only thing that increases mileage is to subtract pressure from the gas pedal.

Or not get out of bed

Articfriends, was the minivan a diesel. I have heard of adding a half cup per fillup increases mileage. Just a little scared to try it. If diesel gets over 3.00 per gallon I might not be so scared.

Update:

Ok here is what I found. I stopped at Lowes yesterday on my way home and bought a generic qt. of Acetone. I filled up my truck (approx. 22 gals of diesel) and then added 4 .oz of acetone. My current project is at Orlando International Airport and I drive the 94 miles one-way everyday. My commute is approx. 10 miles of 35-45 mph (45-55 mph) city/town roads and then 84 miles of highway and interstate driving at 75-80 mph. I track my mileage everyday via the built in computer in my Duramax and everyday it is basically the same. 16.5 - 16.8 mpg average. Today I logged the following:

First 10 miles: 21.9 mpg (45-50 mph)
Second 84 miles and total average: 18.2 (75-80+ mph)

Now I tried to make my trip today as close as every other day to compare apples to apples so overall I found about 1.4 mpg better. And possibly as much 3-4 mpg better at slower speeds, around the 45-50 mph, with stop lights, traffic, etc. Overall, I would say that I was impressed that 4 .oz of "anything" in 22 gals of fuel would make any noticeable difference.

I will continue to monitor my results and keep you posted.

I paid $2.80 this morning. It was $3.11 about 200 yards away at another station.
