Default loud ping from engine.

I heard a loud ping come from the engine when I was at idle yesterday. It was like a hammer hitting a cat iron pan. I put it on the trailer and want be able to take it out till next week end. It is a 525efi with around 60 hours. Any ideas?

Hate to say it, but it sounds like a valve is broken. Have you pulled the plugs and looked for damage yet?

Probably one of the flappers in your exhaust tips.

i am glad your motor seems ok but your logic made me smile...

"hmmm whats that potentially disasterous noise in my motor ? well ill just find out by putting it under massive maximum dynamic load.... if explodes i guess it was bad after all.... "

not busting your balls but seems that next time a more conservative diagnostic approach might save you some cash and time... you got lucky this time...

I heard one ping. I'm not taking the engine out unless I know for sure its broke. When in doubt, nail it.

Sounds good to me. I misread what you were saying. Summer's almost over, beat the hell out of it.

Still think its a valve? I only heard it once and it was at the end of the day and ready to put up. I turned around and nailed it a few times and it did not stumble a bit. The on other thing that I have done was change the drive last week. I hope it was not a keeper coming off the ujoint.

all i can say is thank you. it was guys like you that allowed me to retire early. my sincerest thanks. i encourage all others to treat their hardware with this philosphy so that the people in the business of fixing it can keep getting rich.

geeze... you treat your hardware with logic that makes stupidity seem like a virtue...

let that macho flow... at the same rate the dollars leave your wallet
