Default Black paint overspray on white gel deck.

Either at the Marina or at the shop that fixed my skeg the boat deck got black paint specks of overspray all over it. Since I can't exactly say where it happened I am fixing it.

What should I use?

Go to your local auto paint store. You want overspray clay and the solution spray that goes with it. Mequires makes it as do others. Wax it when your done the clay strips the finish of everything.

Acetone will work if it is a lacquer or other solvent sensitive product. If it is a urethane or epoxy it won't touch it.
Buffing or the clay are the solution and the clay will take off paint that even buffing finds difficult to remove.

Trying the acetone not a bad idea but it that fails those are some other ideas.

If the overspray is fresh, try Waxing Frenzy. We've pulled paint off of gel that was 2 months old.

Thanks guys, the acetone won't harm the gel? I have some Frenzy. How should I apply it for this problem?

I can feel the specs with my finger nail. They are small but thick.

what is the difference between laquer thinner and acetone? Are either harmful for gel? Is one better than the other?

Acetone will not harm the gel (nor will laquer thinner). Just be sure to wax over those areas as they will both strip your wax.

I would recommend putting some Waxing Frenzy! on a piece of terrycloth and rub it over the sprayed areas. You may need to work it in a bit. Let it sit for about 5 minutes and wipe off.

If none of these suggestions work, you may consider wet sanding (as a last resort).

Well, Acetone worked and took all of the paint off but now I have whiter rub marks everywhere and there are many everywhere I used the acetone. Now what?

That's because the acetone removed the dirt from the surface. Wax the whole area....should be fine.
