He couldnt seem to find coverage for high perf. in NJ either.

Get an umbrella liability policy. But if you crash, its on you. It woudl have to be pretty bad though to be worse then your deductible and what yoru saving by not paying a premium. IF you hit someone, you eat the first 300k of liability or whatever limit you set up, then the umbrella policy takes the rest.
