Default A California Offshore Adventure

Christopher and I enjoyed a Saturday morning joyride around Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands, about 20 miles offshore of Channel Islands Harbor. Even at 7am, the sea was a bit adventurous, about 2-3’ windchop and 3-5’ swells, and gave his 272 quite a pounding. But juniors “Big Dog” held up very well and ran flawlessly for the entire 50 mile round trip.

We shoved off a little after 7am and got back to the launch ramp about 9am. We averaged about 45-55mph against oncoming seas on the ride there, and a bit less on the “trough surfing” return trip. All in all, a great ride to an absolutely breathtaking piece of earth. Although there was a gloomy marine layer most of the day, the islands themselves were bathed in sunshine. I guess the term “island” extends far beyond simply land and water.

I have posted a few pictures of our adventure in the Photo Gallery. We did our best to get some video of the ride but frankly, holding the camera with one hand, and holding on for dear life with the other does not make for excellent video. But your welcome to click on these links and enjoy a piece of our adventure.

Sounds great!!! I love going to those islands. I've stayed overnight anchored at Smugglers Cove on time for New Years. It was AWESOME! The seas were crazy when we left at 4:00pm......but we made it and the next morning it was stunning out.

Were you guys amazed at how big the oil platforms are when you get up close to them?
