I am trying to restore a 24' Monza as a project. What is the best/easiest paint to spray? I am planning on spraying it myself. I do not have any experience in this however I want to give it a go. All suggestions and advise is greatly appreciated.

My opinion,and its just that,an opinion....Is that most base/clear urethane systems are pretty much gonna be the about the same in quality and ease of application.as long as you stay with a major name brand...ie...PPG Dupont Sherwin Williams.....Also Im assuming you are gonna use autoimotive urethane.....

The safest for you and easiest in my opinion is base/clear urethane....

You are gonna need to do a little reading on saftey precautions ,have a place to do it ,and get with a local jobber to get you the supplies you need....

Glass dave has posted his procedures somewhere in here on prep/paint for boats....do a search and find it ...its sound advice....

If you have not painted before get an old fender or something to practice on ....get your techniques down for spraying base and clear...they are different....and then have at it...

remember ...safety first.......fire safety,breathing safety...ect

dont do it .. it takes a lot of know how.. 9 out of 10 people screw up their projects... you may be an exception...

Do it....9 out of 10 screw up....and maybe 5 or 6 are tenacious enough to keep at it...and become quite good...Anytime you learn something new and useful ...it is good...

You could do it if you have access to a spray booth. There is a reason it takes 5 years for a painter to become good. I've been spraying for 30 years and I would have someone else spray it if you could do the prep work. Paint is very expensive and you might have to do it a couple of times to get it right. There are professionals out there that still don't know how to properly prep and paint, most are working for maaco.

As Jet Boat Brian said, safety first.

There is alot more pride in accomplishing it yourself.

But if your primary motivation is to save $$$, think again, it may cost more in the long run if you make a few mistakes though.

You can be in volved in your paint job and save money by doing the surface preperation, work with the painter then turn the spray part of the work over to him and or help - You will not save money by painting this yourself, the solvents, paints, waste disposal will cost you more than the paint labor will - the expensive part of the paint job that you can control is the surface preperation - If you paint this yourself and any number of things can go wrong including things as simple as overspray - you will be buffing your ass off and the project will not be as much fun - Paint fumes are overrated - you already smoke, drink, sniff glue and watch porno - I think paint fumes counter act some of the other bad stuff -

I never held a paint gun in my hand before I tried painting my Formula F20. The spaying part isn't really hard, it's the drudgery of prep that kills you. If you walked around my boat, you can see where I get better and better on each separate side. By the time I sprayed the transom, I swear I couldn't have paid for a better job. It was so shiny, even when it dried it looked like you could stick your hand right through it. Other than my butchery of some of the glass patching, I thought it came out pretty good. I'm the only one that it had to pass inspection for. I didn't use any high price paint either. I used the Brightside Polyurethane that you can buy at Boaters World etc. I primed one side, then decided that was a waste of time, and just sanded and shot the other sides. Be sure to at least lightly sand ALL the surfaces. I had a couple spots where I think there was still some wax on the boat that the paint let loose. Two weeks of drudgery for each 20 minutes of fun spraying.

I rolled the bottom paint on with the same paint. Prepping the bottom sucked!
Also a shot of the side I primed. You couldn't tell the difference.
